US rejects India’s claim of bilateral ceasefire with Pakistan

US State Dept spox says Trump’s dealings are transparent and clear

The United States has firmly rejected India’s assertion that Washington played no role in facilitating the recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India.

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, during a routine press briefing in Washington, stated that “we stopped the war between Pakistan and India,” directly contradicting Indian claims of a purely bilateral resolution.

Bruce further added that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance were closely involved in the de-escalation efforts.

The remarks came in response to a question about Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s recent briefing to the Indian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, in which he claimed the decision to implement the ceasefire was made independently by India and Pakistan, without any external intervention.

Misri also maintained that the standoff remained limited to conventional warfare, and both sides refrained from raising the spectre of nuclear conflict.

Bruce dismissed those claims, saying, “It is normal for everyone to have their own opinion, but the negotiations and the position that India is presenting in this regard are wrong.”

She asserted that the Trump administration’s involvement in mediating between the two South Asian neighbours was both deliberate and effective.

“President Trump has taken numerous steps for world peace, and his dealings are transparent and clear,” Tammy Bruce said. “The world knows how active President Trump is for global stability.”

The spokesperson also referenced statements made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had “repeatedly said that we played an important role in this ceasefire.”

Earlier in the press briefing, Bruce highlighted President Trump’s broader diplomatic engagements, including ongoing efforts to secure peace in Gaza, where the US administration is pushing for a future without Hamas in the governing structure.

“The administration is acting in the national interest and for global peace,” Bruce said, noting that similar efforts were underway to broker peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
