Claims interference in ‘digital freedom’ as reason behind falling social media engagement

A 30-year-old woman from India’s Uttar Pradesh state has filed a police complaint against her husband, accusing him of interfering with her work as a social media content creator, which she claims led to a noticeable drop in her Instagram followers.
According to Indian media reports, the woman, identified as Nisha, alleged that her husband, Vijender, was placing excessive demands on her to focus on household responsibilities, leaving her with insufficient time to create content for her Instagram page.
Nisha, who reportedly uploads two reels daily, stated in her complaint that her husband’s behaviour was hampering her ability to maintain an active presence online. “His interference is unreasonable and is directly affecting my work and visibility on Instagram,” she claimed.
The dispute reportedly escalated when Nisha left her in-laws’ residence and moved back to her parental home. Subsequently, she approached the local police station to lodge a formal complaint, accusing her husband of restricting her “digital freedom”.
While no charges have been confirmed yet, local authorities have acknowledged the filing of the complaint and stated that the matter is under preliminary investigation.
