Inquiry launched into deaths of 20 children at DHQ Hospital Pakpattan

Families allege hospital negligence led to tragic deaths

The Sahiwal Commissioner on Monday ordered an inquiry into the deaths of at least 20 children at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Pakpattan.

A new inquiry committee comprising technical staff from Sahiwal Teaching Hospital has been constituted to probe the tragic incident.

The committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and submitting its report within five days, according to officials familiar with the matter.

According to initial reports, between June 16 and June 22, at least 20 children died at the DHQ Hospital.

The highest number of fatalities was reported on June 19, when five children reportedly died in the children’s ward in a single day.

Family members of the deceased have alleged that the deaths were the result of negligence by hospital staff and an acute shortage of oxygen supply in the children’s ward.
