Opp loses power to requisition Punjab Assembly session

As per assembly rules, at least 93 members’ signatures are required to formally request session

The suspension of 26 opposition members from the Punjab Assembly has further complicated matters for the opposition, effectively stripping them of their ability to requisition a session.

Currently, the opposition holds 105 seats in the assembly. Following the suspension of 26 members, their strength has dropped to 79. As per assembly rules, at least 93 members’ signatures are required to formally request a session.

Until the suspended members are reinstated, the opposition will not be able to submit a requisition for convening the assembly, limiting their legislative maneuvering for the time being.
