Iran-Israel conflict: Egypt delays opening of $1bn Grand Egyptian Museum

Regional tensions linked to Iran-Israel conflict cited as reason for postponement

Egypt has delayed the official opening of its $1 billion Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, citing regional tensions stemming from the Iran-Israel conflict, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

According to details, initially scheduled for July 3, the opening is now expected to take place in the final quarter of 2025.

Officials described the decision as a “national responsibility,” stating that the landmark should be unveiled in a global climate that reflects the grandeur of Egypt’s ancient legacy.

Until then, the museum — located near the Giza Pyramids and regarded as the largest archaeological institution dedicated to a single civilisation — will remain partially open to visitors.
